Cocon.commerz decided to implement Scense company-wide on all machines within one single weekend. "A solution that powerful cannot be delayed to be implemented" Rethmann says. Nowadays users can roam and switch easily without time consuming restarts, installations and un-installs. Every user can use every PC without hassle. Scense enables optimal personalization of SVS and roaming users and finally delivered the promise of centrally managed network profiles. "Before we implemented Symantec SVS and Scense, we were just fighting bushfires", Rethmann says. With Scense and SVS, we save approximately 80% of our time at desktop support. Both the IT department as well as our users actually experienced all the benefits of Scense instantly.
"Users are more satisfied and can easily use and share PC’s and notebooks without any issues or delays. The IT department freed up more time than ever before, rather than spending 80% of their valuable time on desktop support, they only use 20%. This is a win-win situation for everyone." - Rado Rethmann, CIO at cocon.commerz.

IJsselland chose Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) as the best way to deliver end-user applications and Scense’s User Workspace Management solutions also had a vital part to play for five main reasons. "By using Scense to deliver the virtualized applications to end users, we didn’t need to buy a streaming server. This saves us money and helps to minimize the complexity of our IT environment." The one sequence fits all saves time in the application acceptation environment. Before, IJsselland needed to re-sequence an application after it was accepted by end users. With Scense, they just sequence once, and the same application behaves differently depending on the stage of the acceptation process.
Scala’s desktop management provider admitted that they weren’t able to offer a solution for this situation and suggested to search for a new application delivery provider. Scala’s IT department selected and compared a number of application delivery and desktop management solutions and decided to implement Scense’s workspace management suite including Scense’s application virtualization solution.
The migration yielded many advantages, both for end-users as the system administrators. "Our end-users logon, using a dynamic logon/logoff script, at any workstation they want and can request the most up-to-date applications at the Scense database. If an application is not available, they will receive a notification of this (instead of an error message or a crashing system). The stability has been improved because the Scense repository compares different files from different versions to avoid application conflicts. End-users are no longer obligatory to work on a fixed workstation, the usage of the dynamic logon/logoff scripts ensure all settings are transferred to any workstation." Before the deployment of Scense the IT department spent 80% of their time at workstation- and application management. Now this is reduced to 20%.
To manage and deliver the personalization layer and dynamic applications to a virtual desktop, it is recommended to add a workspace management solution like Scense. Scense Workspace Management will guarantee a personalized, fully functional virtual desktop to every user, on any device. Because of the desktop agnostic approach of Scense, the exact same desktop experience will also be available outside the virtual desktop environment: on fat clients, laptops or employee owned devices.
Nowadays, as soon as a student registers for the first time, they receive a profile indicating which applications are available to them, along with a login name and password allowing them to access their profile, data and applications at any workstation. And the benefits are not confined to the end-user. Previously, 30 or 40 IT staff had been kept constantly busy with urgent IT problems. Nowadays, issues are resolved far more quickly and efficiently and the number of helpdesk calls has been dramatically reduced. Instead IT staff can focus on far more interesting and valuable projects.
After reviewing several solutions, Lisse decided to do a pilot project with Scense workspace management, since the IT department felt that Scense offered the best options. Dorien Brauckmann, IT consultant at the city council Lisse, says: "We had more confidence in the Scense solution as it was a proven concept. After the approval of the council, we authorized a pilot program and we started with an overview of all applications. The pilot was successful and within 5 months the Scense workspace management solution was deployed in all departments.
"We willen de 5 A’s: anytime, anywhere, any person, any device en any place.
