Full Session Control empowers the IT-Manager to control and manage the desktop while guiding and advising the end-user from logon until logoff. The IT-manager is able to act on every moment during the session by using session-events. Each session-event is a set of tasks used to manage applications, desktop-settings, user settings, policies and other variables related to the workspace environment.
An administrator should be able to configure a desktop before a user logs on. This event will help the administrator to install applications and configure the desktop right after the computer starts without bothering the end user with it. You will need this event for instance within VDI environments to configure desktops within a pool right after they are created.
A user should be able to use his own personal desktop and configuration independent of the workstation where he logs on. With this event-type, the administrator is able to perform actions on the profile of the user: making sure that the user gets his shortcuts on his desktop or check if the user is connected to the network drives where he has clearance for (home directory or for instance the group drive). With this event you are able to set the variables of the user environment.
As an administrator you don’t want to bother the user with a reboot. You would prefer to reboot the workstation when the user wants to reboot the workstation. With this event you can create actions for operations you would like to happen when a user logs off: deleting temporary files or directories, deleting cookies, saving settings or maybe deleting the user’s garbage can.
Starting an application usually needs more steps then just starting the application. Network drives need to be activated, database clients need to be activated or update-checks need to be executed. These actions might use resources and decrease the workstation-performance. For sake of the end-user experience, you don’t want to perform all these actions at logon. With this event, the administrator is able to execute these time-consuming actions just in time: at application launch.
After installation, an application needs to be configured properly: ready to go. Register keys need to be set, the application need to be configured to the users needs and unneeded or unwanted parts of the application need to be disabled. All actions related to the installation of an application, can be executed by using this event.
After starting a workstation, this should be up and running as soon as possible. All actions not necessarily needed during logon or other events during the session (updates, de-fragmentation, software-scan’s etc), can be postponed until a more convenient time: when the user is not to busy on the workstation. This event is used to schedule these actions.
During the user session some actions need to be executed on a regularly basis. Maintenance to get continues optimal performance on the workstation, scans for monitoring purposes are all actions that can be scheduled by using this session events.
Modifications like adjusting hardware properties or advanced system configuration need elevated rights on the workstation: for users with limited rights this will be impossible. Some applications need elevated rights resulting in malfunctioning software because the OS won’t allow the user to elevate his rights. By using the Scense On-Demand service, the rights on the workstation are elevated temporarily within the context of the task being performed.
This event is used to configure registry settings for a user, a user group or everyone with a few clicks. This will allow you to standardize desktops, to hide control panels, to disable plug & play, to disable password saving, to delete Microsoft msn messenger or to make the C: drive invisible for users. By using the Scense setting event & templates managing registry settings is made easy.
This event is used to manage hyperlinks and menu’s on intranets. Hyperlinks to corporate applications or external applications and websites are linked to users and groups thus granting access to these applications. With this event, functionality is also provided to create custom menu structures based on the users privileges. By using this functionality, you are able to create personalized web-portals.
