Avans Hogeschool (Dutch)

Toch moeten kleinere gemeenten werken met aanzienlijk lagere IT budgetten. IT afdelingen moeten daarom elke mate van complexiteit vermijden, standaardisatie is daarom key.

IJsselland Hospital
Short, easy and successful Citrix XenApp implementations because of Scense Workspace Management

case study citrix ijsseland hospitalIn contrast with regular corporate application environments, applications in hospitals need to be available on locations IT has no unlimited access to like operating rooms. Next to that, the hospital allows medical personnel to use mobile devices like iPads and other tablets to access medical applications and information and application access at home because of medical doctors being on call. IJsselland decided to implement Citrix XenApp 6 and Scense Workspace Management 7.5. Citrix XenApp 6 because of its capabilities related to controlling and encrypting access to data and applications, Scense Workspace Management to guarantee the reliability of the medical applications, to reduce management costs and to increase the user experience within the XenApp environment.

"We have been using Scense Workspace Management for years and have enjoyed its flexible and powerful architecture year after year. Implementing Citrix XenApp 6 was a short, easy and successful projects just because of the fact that we were using Scense Workspace " - Menno van den Heuvel, Administrator at IJsselland Hospital.

Schieland Waterboard
A pro-active IT department thanks to the Desktop and Workspace management solution of Scense

The migration yielded many advantages, both for end-users as the system administrators. "Our end-users logon, using a dynamic logon/logoff script, at any workstation they want and can request the most up-to-date applications at the Scense database. If an application is not available, they will receive a notification of this (instead of an error message or a crashing system). The stability has been improved because the Scense repository compares different files from different versions to avoid application conflicts. End-users are no longer obligatory to work on a fixed workstation, the usage of the dynamic logon/logoff scripts ensure all settings are transferred to any workstation." Before the deployment of Scense the IT department spent 80% of their time at workstation- and application management. Now this is reduced to 20%.

"The IT department has become more pro-active and since the implementation of Scense a number of strategic projects have been realized that otherwise could not have been implemented with the same number of FTE’s." - Evert de Rijke, System Administration Coordinater at Waterboard Schieland & Krimpenerwaard.

Cocon Commerz
Optimal workspace personalization and profile virtualization centrally managed

Cocon.commerz decided to implement Scense company-wide on all machines within one single weekend. "A solution that powerful cannot be delayed to be implemented" Rethmann says. Nowadays users can roam and switch easily without time consuming restarts, installations and un-installs. Every user can use every PC without hassle. Scense enables optimal personalization of SVS and roaming users and finally delivered the promise of centrally managed network profiles. "Before we implemented Symantec SVS and Scense, we were just fighting bushfires", Rethmann says. With Scense and SVS, we save approximately 80% of our time at desktop support. Both the IT department as well as our users actually experienced all the benefits of Scense instantly.

"Users are more satisfied and can easily use and share PC’s and notebooks without any issues or delays. The IT department freed up more time than ever before, rather than spending 80% of their valuable time on desktop support, they only use 20%. This is a win-win situation for everyone." - Rado Rethmann, CIO at cocon.commerz.

Scala College
Instant conflict-free application distribution via centralized management

Scala’s desktop management provider admitted that they weren’t able to offer a solution for this situation and suggested to search for a new application delivery provider. Scala’s IT department selected and compared a number of application delivery and desktop management solutions and decided to implement Scense’s workspace management suite including Scense’s application virtualization solution.

Gerben Westerveld: "The other vendors we evaluated were machine oriented, not addressing the flexibility required by our users. Other’s didn’t offer an application delivery layer at all or were just too expensive to fit in our budget sheets. Scense workspace management offered exactly what we needed: user-centric application delivery at a reasonable price".

"Thanks to the ease of use of the management console, we are finally able to deliver applications in-time and conflict-free to our students and teachers." - Mr. Gerben Westerveld, Project Manager at Scala College.

IJsselland Hospital
IJsselland Hospital transforms Microsoft App-V into a medical ICT solution with Scense

IJsselland chose Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) as the best way to deliver end-user applications and Scense’s User Workspace Management solutions also had a vital part to play for five main reasons. "By using Scense to deliver the virtualized applications to end users, we didn’t need to buy a streaming server. This saves us money and helps to minimize the complexity of our IT environment." The one sequence fits all saves time in the application acceptation environment. Before, IJsselland needed to re-sequence an application after it  was accepted by end users. With Scense, they just sequence once, and the same application behaves differently depending on the stage of the acceptation process.

"Deciding to work with Scense was the most logical choice. Scense solutions have been developed on the idea that Desktop Management Solutions should be100% user-based." - Menno van den Heuvel, Administrator at IJsselland Hospital.

Delfland Waterboard
One consistent desktop for everyone with Scense

To manage and deliver the personalization layer and dynamic applications to a virtual desktop, it is recommended to add a workspace management solution like Scense. Scense Workspace Management will guarantee a personalized, fully functional virtual desktop to every user, on any device. Because of the desktop agnostic approach of Scense, the exact same desktop experience will also be available outside the virtual desktop environment: on fat clients, laptops or employee owned devices.
Arnold explains the added value of Scense. "Because Scense also manages the content of the master templates we use to create persistent and non persistent virtual desktops, these templates are always up to date. As a result, the virtual desktops are fully functional from the start. We don’t need to reimage our templates and can now recompose our desktops whenever we like. This results in savings in costs and storage".

"Scense did not force us to limit our options, they support locally installed applications and all major virtualization vendors" Arnold van der Ent, System Administrator at Delfland Waterboard.

Mondriaan
Mondriaan Education Group makes a breakthrough with Scense

Nowadays, as soon as a student registers for the first time, they receive a profile indicating which applications are available to them, along with a login name and password allowing them to access their profile, data and applications at any workstation. And the benefits are not confined to the end-user. Previously, 30 or 40 IT staff had been kept constantly busy with urgent IT problems. Nowadays, issues are resolved far more quickly and efficiently and the number of helpdesk calls has been dramatically reduced. Instead IT staff can focus on far more interesting and valuable projects.

"Scense helps us to use our IT staff more effectively. As a result, we have been able to implement all the projects and ideas we had planned for this year." - Peter Cornet at Mondriaan Education Group.

City Council Lisse
Workspace personalization gives flexibility to users, but central control for IT

After reviewing several solutions, Lisse decided to do a pilot project with Scense workspace management, since the IT department felt that Scense offered the best options. Dorien Brauckmann, IT consultant at the city council Lisse, says: "We had more confidence in the Scense solution as it was a proven concept. After the approval of the council, we authorized a pilot program and we started with an overview of all applications. The pilot was successful and within 5 months the Scense workspace management solution was deployed in all departments.

Dorien Brauckmann explains that the main advantage of Scense is the fact that IT can add applications to the active directory very quickly. "It saves hours per application and thus we save money. The public is better served and our employees enjoy more flexibility. We work very closely with some other towns and definitely discuss our solution with them." She finishes with praise for the support and technical understanding of Commit-IT.

"Our employees can use whatever desktop available and get their own profile, data and applications. At the same time the IT department has been able to increase their productivity." - Dorien Brackmann, IT Consultant at City Council Lisse.

Deltion College (Dutch)

"We willen de 5 A’s: anytime, anywhere, any person, any device en any place.

Deltion College
Deltion College embraces ‘Consumerization of IT’ with Scense - student laptop becomes teaching aid

To support the demand of a diverse and large group of 17.000 young students, adults and employees, with all their individual expectations on flexibility, functionality and mobility, Deltion College recently deployed the Scense Workspace Management Solution.

Deltion College had to deploy software to almost 4.000 computers on which until recently about 1.700 different applications were running. Next to that challenging task, he was also confronted with the fact that more students and employees were bringing their own laptop and expected availability of all Deltion applications and personalized workspaces on these devices. Furthermore, there has been an exponential growth of people working outside the Deltion network.

“We were able to realize a great amount of functionality; we became more flexible and we now offer a higher availability and mobility. Scense User Workspace Management enabled us to deliver more value with the same resources” – Robert Vos, Manager IT at Deltion College.
